Default Harare, Zimbabwe, Africa

Rent for a 3 bedroom house US$1500-3000, in and around Harare; Utilities from US$800-1500; Schooling from US$1500-$4000 per child; Medical aid US$100-500 per person;

Food costs meals basic no luxuries US$1500-3000 per person.

Fuel costs US$1.40-1.50 a litre of fuel which you need for generators and cars;water costs as we rarely have running water is US$45-65 for 5000 litres ( which could last a week of you are careful)

Hospitalization if you have an accident or emergency depends on your medical aid provider but several could ask for US$1000.00 deposit before anything is done. Nothing in Zimbabwe is under a US$1.00 so its pretty expensive for any form of recreation and if you don't earn it then you don't have it.

Wink Zimbabwe Africa 30/1/12

I think that the earlier writer is a bit extreme on the costs in Zim. Houses are relatively cheap to buy, say $250,000 buys a very nice 4 bedroom,pool, etc on one acre in the better suburbs. Rents are about 1000-1500/month in the same areas. Very good day schools are about 1200 per term. Medical aid about $50/person/month. Sports golf etc are relatively inexpensive. A coffee is a dollar, groceries have gone up a bit recently. For a couple without children say $5,000/month can give you a very comfortable life.
