Singapore
4 bedroom, 1800sq ft apt, central $6k per month, utilities roughtly $300 per month (we're family of 5),
medical visit $25 per consultation which is cheap (local GP) plus prescription charges which vary,
food - can get good fresh fruit and veges at market and some meat - average about $400 per wk on food, alcohol very expensive - 6pk beer cans $15-20, bottle of wine $20+, milk 2L $5.30, eggs range from $2 for local to $10 for imported.
User pays environment not much free (except parks which there are lots and they're great) - kids activities expect to pay at least $30+++ per session of whatever you do tennis, gymboree, kindermusik, gym etc.
Transport is cheap with the MRT, taxis cheap also - petrol about $1.50 per litre, cars however are very expensive and the cost to own one is high. Second hand, 7 seater with about 80km on clock, $60,000 (2 years ago). Govt. wants to minimize car usage due to limited space and 4million people and to encourage use of amazing public transport system. If i didn't have 3 kids under 5, i wouldn't get a car. However, cost of money cheap .. repayment on above car approx $1000 per month.
Then if you want to get a domestic helper to live in with you and help with chores, babysitting etc add about $700 per mth (includes fee you pay to the Govt). We pay our helper $500 per mth.
