Default San Juan, Puerto Rico

The cost of living in Puerto Rico depends on where you want to buy or rent, Old San Juan is very expensive and since is a protected by Unesco it is impossible to find a 2 bedroom apartment for less than $1,500 it is impossible to park in the streets, the governor lives in Old San Juan and they have offices and buildings all around the city. You have Condado, Santurce, hato Rey and Rio Piedras, Condado is expensive there you will find famous boutiques like Chanel, Louis Vittion, etc... next to Condado is Santurce less expensive but here you will find good apartments and location near Condado for less than $800, and Hato Rey, the financial district where you can find different types of rents depending on the neighborhood. Rio Piedras has good and really bad places to live and different amounts in the rent. I live in Bayamon, 15 minutes from Old San Juan in car where they have all what you need and more, schools, universities, good and bad neighborhoods, shopping malls, our train that gets you to Santurce, Hato Rey and Rio Piedras, I live in Rio Hondo the best of Bayamon, they call it the gold mile; very good neighborhood, with all kinds of facilities, next to everything and more...

In Puerto Rico electricity is expensive, $100 for a 100pound tank of gas, water is expensive, I pay $50 a month for that service, $92 for Cable, phone and internet, my mobile company is T-Mobile and pay $70 a month for my Android which includes everything without limit, internet, calls and text as well as roaming in the states as well as calls to and from US. There is a company by name Open Mobile that gives you everything for $55 a month even calls to information operator, which is $1.50 per call in TMobile. The transportation is terrible but when my car broke down I had to use and it wasn't that bad since I live in bayamon. The typical rent is $700 a month for a 3 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment in a good place, that even has a pool and parking, depends were you select, but you can find good rents. I pay $1,200 mortgage for a two story house, 5 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms, double car parking garage, very good neighborhood, walking distance to the mall, movies, restaurants, supermarket, doctors and dentist offices, I have a pool. I love were I live..

Default San Juan, Puerto Rico, USA

CAROLINA, PUERTO RICO, USA

This town is in the metropolitan area. At 5 minutes from the airport, 20 minutes from the rain forest (El Yunque), 10 minutes from every night life in the metropolitan area. Carolina have one of the most beautiful beaches in the island (Isla Verde). From Carolina you can go to the other side of the island in 1 1/2 hour. Because we are part of the USA we have almost everything you can find in the contiguous 48 states, from food, stores, famous designs stores and outlets, to your favorite fast food. Living in the metropolitan area is a litter more expensive than live in others towns of the island, but this difference is not tooooo high. Here are some figures to consider living in the metropolitan area of Puerto Rico:

Mortgage/Rent (from $600-@1,500)
Utilities (Power from $100 to $350.00) (Water from $19.00 to $100)
Food cost (from $100 to $300)
Health Care (from $78.00 to 160.00 monthly without prescriptions)
Education ($0.00 Public Schools - Not too good) (from $100 to 225.00 monthly - Private Schools)
Recreation (Because we are an island, most of our recreation is outside... so IT'S FREEEEE. But if you want to go to movies $6.00, Concert $30.00-$80.00, Shows $20.00-75.00, dancing $20.00-40.00, night clubs, some you enter for free, others $15.00-20.00 with a cocktail.)

The public medical services are REALLY BAD.... and the private ones are from regular to good. Looking for working now in PR will take a lot of time. At this point (dec/2011) like all other parts of the state, we have a lot of people without work, I mean, is not really impossible, but it will take a little time.

Over all, it's great to live in this little island with a big impact in the world. The puertoricans are really friendly, like to party (they party for everything), and they are one of the most happy people in the world....were else you want to live!!!!!!!
