The first post is correct
The first post is correct the second one is horse ----. I have good friends who live in Mexico city and you can eat out for in a denny's for $7.00 American . From what I have heard rent is about 1/2 of the price of a similiar dwelling in Chicago. From my experience meals seem about 1/2 price also. Electronics ect are more expensive but a lot of people make from 75 to 250 dollars a week , how could they live if prices were not cheaper for food and housing .

all posts should state social class
i live in mexico city, lived here all my life.
first post has rent prices for really low level real state, any middle class 60 square meters apartment in any part of the city goes well above 500 bucks per month. for 100-150 you find places in low level and dangerous parts of the city.
food is mixed, indeed you can get a mcdonalds meal deal for 4 bucks average and a normal middle class restaurant will go from 10 to 15 bucks per person, a high tier restaurant ranges 20 to 50 bucks.
transportation is cheap using buses but it's kinda dangerous, they respect no law and drive like madman, cause lots of accidents. subway is cheap but also limited in security and comfort.
Normal non luxury cars range 10000 to 15000 usd. insurance averages 300 to 500 usd. fuel costs on an medium car range 100 usd per month.
groceries are tricky, im middle class and spend around 200 usd per month for groceries.
movies cost 4 usd per person plus another 4 to 8 bucks for popcorn and such, theater are a little bit more expensive at about 10 to 15 bucks for a normal play.
private high tier universities cost about 600 usd per month or more.
