The living expenses in Male' (capital city island of Maldives) is rather expensive to live. Food, health care, recreation, you name it. Everything is pretty expensive. It's only because our natural resources are very limited (most are not even available) and almost everything needs to be imported.

For One person to stay in Male', a room with attached toilet (Normal rooms) is usually for 900 to 1000 Maldivian ruffiya per month. (I dollar is 12.85 Maldivian ruffiyaa). For someone who's looking for a deluxe room, the rent would be about 2500 to 4000 ruffiyaa for one room with attached toilet.

Taxi services are available, but not much necessary, because Male' is only 2 kilometers long! Taxi's here are not metered and have a fixed price for where ever you want to go, of 20 Maldivian ruffiya per stop. But an additional charge of 5 ruffiya will be added for any luggages carried in.
