Default Needing current info on KL living costs

I've been teaching English in S.Korea for 3.5 years but will be finishing my present contract in March and am considering relocating to Kuala Lumpur, getting a small apartment or nice room and working on my internet business.

My hobby is Salsa dancing and I've learned that KL does have a vibrant Salsa community so....I'm espeically interesting in moving there.

I've kinda set a budget of $1000 a month. Is that realistic?

I'm single, don't smoke, drink or whore around. I just like to dance :-)...and other simple things like seeing the city, the sights, nature, photography, etc. And I like SE Asian type food too.

I noticed some generally encouraging data on earlier posts on this forum but I wanted to join and check to see if that info was still reasonably accurant.

Also, I assume I'll be on some sort of tourist visa (US citizen, age 66) so would it be possible for me to establish some kind of banking account to deposit my money there?

Best regards,
Art Williams

around KLCC prices go up as expected, but for a 1-bedroom (hopefully furnished properly as advertized) you could expect to pay between RM1500-2500. I am on 33nd floor 4-bedroom 5-min from twin-towers @ RM9000 OK (not specially good) furnished, and have seen RM4000 badly furnished, somewhat rundown 3-4 bedroom 26th floor old building 15-20 min from center. You get the idea.
