Default Athens, GREECE

A 45 square m apartment or their abouts, half way up the hill so to speak in athens like mine is..

350E: a friend is renting it to you or something is wrong (building a new building next door,
500E: sold out quickly
600-700E you can get a nice place

you leave the super market and your average bill for 2-3 even 4 plastic shopping bags of food is 30-40E (thats buying fruits and vegies and few higher items.

.80c a 1.5 hour all forms of pub transit

every apartment building (yes you will live in a apartment building) has a commen fee- this depends on how high up you are in the building. - the highest is the most expensive-
(heating oil- cleaners for the general area)
big varience- in summer - I'm @ 30e per/mo - winter like 50e per/mo - but i'm basement ;-)
this building likes it hot though*

Boat tickets are expensive to the islands. - 30-60e per trip on average- big average there. - (each way)
6h trip - 40e from Athens.

a roasted corn on the cob you get on the street from a vender to snack on is 2e universally

Rent:300-800 euros depending on the size of the flat, its location and its age. For a decent flat at an OK area, around 400-600 euros (50-65squ.metres)

Utilities:150-200 euros a month for electricity, water supply and heating in a small apartment. Heating can cost much more if the apartment is bigger, or if the block of flats provides autonomous heating.

Food: 70-90c for half a kilo of bread (a loaf)

Shopping at supermarkets can be pretty expensive. For regular food supplies (like dairy products, some fruit and vegetables, pasta or rice) and household paper products one can payabout 30-60 euros a week.

Transportation within the city of Athens: 80 cents for 90min with all means. Special monthly cards and passes.
Ferries: 9 euros to Aegina island (one way), an hour away. About 30 euros to Naxos island (one way), six hour trip. Hydrofoils and high speed boats cost almost double.

Cinema: 7-9 euros
Theatrical plays: 15-28 euros
Live music performances in small bars:10-20 euros, usually the drink is included. If the group is famous and the gig is held at an arena, a music Hall or at a stadium, gigs may cost from 35-75 euros.

Cup of coffee:About 4-5 euros. Some trendy places charge more, especially for newer types of coffee (fredoccino, mochaccino, etc).
Fresh juice: 4-6 euros
Beer: 5-8 euros. (70cents-1 euro at the super market)

Health insurance: In a private insurance company: about 800 euros a year for a 25 year old male, about 1200 euros per year for a 35 year-old female.

Emergencies at public hospitals are treated for free, but be prepared to wait. A doctor's fee can vary from 40-90 euros.

Greece is no longer cheap anymore... And service has not improved...

In Euros:

Rent for a 4 bedroom house + small garden (400m2) in Northern suburbs: 4000

Utilities: 600/month

School fees international: 17000/year/student

Restaurant: 20/person excluding drinks

Groceries etc... about +20% more expensive than UK or France due to very high distribution margins (monopolies...)> White bread = 2.2/loaf, Milk = 2/liter, yogurts = 2.5 Euros for 3, decent steak = 20 Euros/Kg, For a family of 4 count at least 1000 Euros/month.

Cars are 10% higher than in France due to higher taxes if engine>1400cc

Healthcare: expensive and poor quality: 80Euros per doctor visist. Most hospitals third world like...

Hotels are very expensive: 80 Euro for 2 person bedroom with basic comfort: neon light, synthetic bed covers, moldy shower curtains...
