Costs of living in Prague, Czech Republic:


1 Czech koruna = 0.051224 U.S. dollars

Rent: 25 000 CZK pm. 2 bedroom; 1.5 bathroom; 1 lounge with open plan kitchen; approx 80 sqm. 4th floor apartment building in centre of prague with lift. Non furnished.

Utilities: 3000 CZK pm for family of 4 (2 small children)

Food: Loaf of bread 35 CZK for standard loaf; Milk 1 litre semi skimmed 17 CZK; Pork meat 160 CZK / kg; Chicken meat 150 CZK / kg; average price for main meal at average restaurant 120 CZK

Transport: 3 months full transport ticket (Trams, Busses, metro, Trains within city limits) 1500 CZK for adult; Single ticket 17 CKZ

Rent: studio quite central, 10,000 CZK = about 400 Euro

unlimited travel pass: 20 euro/mth

upscale gym: 60 euro /mth

eating out: cheap, 10 euro for decent meal and a cpl of beers

beer in a pub: 1 euro

hot dog: 0.4 euro

This is a cost of 4 member family in owned house
- Utilities $ 800/ month
- Fuel $ 1.8 / litre
- Groceries $ 1 500 / month

As far as clothing goes, its now more expensive than say London aprox 40%.

Rent: studio flat, 30 sq.m. for two people, partly furnished, utilities inclusive 9.000-11.000,- monthly
Tax (based on a salary of 24.000/month) 5.000
Health insurance, state insurance 1.600
Social insurance 1.700
Preschool (private) 10.000

Foods (some seasonal variation - F&V up to 50%)
Bread 20
Milk 15
Potatoes 10,-/kg
Onions 10,-/kg
Tomatoes 40,-/kg
Apples 15-50,-/kg
Pork 90-180,-/kg
Chicken 100-150,-/kg
Beef 200-300,-/kg
Sugar 20
Beer (at the supermarket) 15
Local wine from 60 (table wines)
Long-grain rice 30,-/kg
Jasmine rice 60,-/kg


Petrol 30-32,-/L
Train to Berlin, prebooked on eShop 750,-
Monthly travel pass in Prague: 550,- Children 200,-
Annual travel pass (Open Card) 4.000

(It is possible to find these things cheaper, you have to shop around!)

Taxi - airport to centre 500,-
Taxi - centre to southern suburbs 300 - 700,-
(A taxi is NOT a normal mode of transport!)

A visit to an English-speaking doctor without appropriate health cover: 2.000+
