Qingdao, China
In American dollars I pay 550 dollars for a 3 bedroom sixth floor apartment. I had to pay six months in advance plus a 1,000 dollar deposit. Utilities are about 150 dollars per month. Food costs are relatively low as I usually eat in the local shops. Costs are about 15 dollars per day.
My health care has been from my own pocket and I have been to a dentist twice for denture repair and paid about 5o dollars each visit. Two recent visits to Chinese doctors to help with bronchitis were about 60 dollars each which included some basic medicines.
I have found the expense of shipping needed articles to China to be very frustrating and expensive. I inject myself for an allergy condition. My first shipment when needed from the US just never showed up. The second one which insurance would not cover cost me 78 dollars to use Fed Ex. Then Chinese Customs would not allow delivery to me without a prescription written in Chinese from my US doctor. All of this took several weeks and when I finally received the medicine I had to pay 20 dollars customs tax. I have been on two trips out of the country so I could renew my visa. Going with Chinese groups and was charged double that of a Chinese person so that each trip cost me about 1,000 dollars, which is much cheaper than if I had taken the trip alone.
Hope this helps.
