Dining out at a good restaurant is $40-50 incl dessert. Wine,beer and liquor is controlled by private liquor stores so you must shop around. Canadian items are less costly than any imports.

Healthcare is gov't subsidised so varies for family. Drug cost and para medical costs are expensive. Dental is expensive. Vet visits vary by location but a normal check up is $30-50
depending on location and doctor.

New vehicles are expensive-more than the USA for the same car. New windshield $300-400. Body work is expensive. Utilities are costly. basic phone $30, natural gas, electric all contingent on usage and distance from provider so more isolated areas pay more for delivery charges.

It is important to note that you are referring to provincial sales tax only. People all over the world read this and they may not realize that everywhere in Canada is subject to GST sales tax, property tax, income tax. . . . but it is true there is no 'Provincial' sales tax in Alberta.
