Fairbanks, Alaska, USA
I live in Fairbanks, Alaska, USA. I am currently building a yurt that will be winter-worthy, so my costs will be a bit speculative. However, I have lived here most of my life so I can how much it costs to live here in general.
Our monthly land/loan payment is 548. 85 USD, and we also pay 100 USD in school loans, and 100 USD a month on our car, which I purchased (through this loan) from my parents. Not a typical deal.
We have not had electricity in a few years, so I am not sure how much we will spend, but I believe it will be between 25-60 USD a month. We will not have running water, or a toilet (typical for younger adults here in Fairbanks), so we will not have to pay for this. We WILL have to haul our own water however, and use an outhouse. Gas, for heating- I am not sure how much this will be as we have been using a woodstove for years. However, we are getting a monitor as well, which will use gas. Estimated cost will be 70 USD a month (not in summer months, obviously).
We sometimes have to pay for wood to be hauled, or we have to 1. get it ourselves which involves chainsaw and/or car fuel. This is an estimated 500 USD worth of labor and/or money for wood. We also have to pay for transportation (mainly car), which is about 50 USD a month. Food is about 3-400 USD a month. This is a rough estimate. Some food is obtained through hunting/fishing/gardening/trade etc./berrypicking.
